This 2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500XD is a high-roof van that was designed as a recreational vehicle by Canepa of Scotts Valley, California, and constructed by its affiliate company Concept Transporters of Fresno, and was acquired new by the current owner. The cabin has been outfitted with a kitchenette, engineered porcelain flooring, a textured fabric headliner, automatic window shades, video monitors, multimedia receivers, recessed lighting, hideaway beds, and heated front seats trimmed in brown leather, while a lavatory with a handheld shower, a stainless-steel shower pan, a sink, and a commode resides at the partitioned rear section. The van wears a graphite finish and is powered by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 linked that sends power to all four wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. A roof rack with an awning, an air conditioner, solar panels, and an in-motion tracking satellite receiver was installed during the build, and additional equipment includes a dually rear axle, a rear ladder, a diesel-powered PowerTech 3000W generator, retractable side steps, utility hookups, and a sliding side door.
The exterior wears a graphite finish with a sliding side door and rear barn doors. The powder-coated roof rack is fitted with solar panels, an air conditioning unit, a TracVision in-motion tracking satellite receiver, and a front-facing LED light bar. An awning is mounted to the right side of the vehicle, and further equipment includes retractable side steps, a PowerTech 3000W diesel generator, a 3000W Xantrex pure sine wave inverter charger, a rear ladder, a receiver hitch, a rearview camera, ceiling vents, tinted windows, utility hookups, and fog lights.
Silver-finished 16″ Alcoa aluminum wheels are mounted with 215/85 Kumho Road Venture AT51 tires. The van rides on independent front suspension and a solid dually rear axle, and braking is handled by discs at all four corners. The chassis is equipped with Acceleration Slip Regulation.
The front cabin houses heated bucket seats upholstered in two-tone brown leather that extends to the door panels and armrests. A textured Donghia fabric headliner extends the length of the cabin, and Weathertech liners protect the floors. Additional equipment includes MBUX entertainment, a multifunction steering wheel, and air conditioning. The digital odometer indicates 2k miles.
The rear cabin features a raised and coffered ceiling, engineered Dekton porcelain flooring, and fabricated storage cabinets. Appointments include a Dometic refrigerator, two-burner cooktop, and sink along with a swiveling video monitor, a Contoure microwave, a Dish Network receiver, a DVD player, a Marantz audio-visual receiver, an accessory cabin heater, automatic window blinds, and manually-sliding ceiling panels for the skylights. Control modules for the solar, air conditioning, generator, water tanks, and battery systems are housed in a cabinet, and cabin controls are adjusted via tablet or wall-mounted switch panels.
The curb-side power-reclining sofa folds flat to create a bed, and a guest bed folds flush with the roadside wall that houses a video monitor and recessed speakers.
A magnetic pocket door separates the rear of the cabin from the lavatory, which can also be accessed through the rear barn doors. It is equipped with a stainless-steel shower pan with a rubberized mat along with a Dometic commode, a glass sink basin, a faucet, a handheld shower attachment, and a ceiling-mounted vent fan. A diesel-fired water heating system is outfitted.
The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 was factory rated at 188 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.
Power is routed to all four wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. Tanks for the water and liquid propane systems are mounted to the underbody.
