This 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo is finished in Maraschino Red Metallic over light gray leather and is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four linked with a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The car was sold new at Bill Cook Porsche of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and remained registered in Michigan before it was relocated to Arizona where it was acquired by the seller in 2010. Factory equipment includes a removable sunroof, automatic climate control, cruise control, a limited-slip differential, a transmission oil cooler, pop-up headlights, and integrated fog lamps. Modifications consist of a Vitesse Racing MAF kit, an upgraded hybrid turbocharger, a 3″ turbo-back exhaust system, a front strut tower brace, Paragon adjustable front coilovers, Koni yellow rear struts, and 968 M030 sway bars. The seller has added approximately 13k of the car’s indicated 58k miles, and recent work is said to have included a replacement clutch, timing belt, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, motor mounts, transaxle synchros, and battery.
The body is finished in Maraschino Red Metallic and features a removable sunroof, a rear spoiler, pop-up headlights, and integrated fog lamps. The seller states that the driver-side door was repainted after being damaged, and the front bumper cover was recently refinished. Faded clear coat is noted on the roof, and there are touched-up paint chips on the body.
The car is equipped with 2002 Porsche Carrera Lightweights 18″ alloy wheels with Turbo center caps that are mounted with 235/40 front and 275/35 rear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that show 2012 date codes and are said to have covered approximately 4,000 miles. Suspension modifications include Paragon adjustable front coilovers, Koni yellow rear struts, and 968 M030 sway bars. Braking is handled by four-piston fixed caliper disc brakes at all four corners.
The seats are upholstered in light gray partial leather with a matching lower dashboard, center console, door panels, and carpets. Additional equipment includes automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, mirrors, and locks, and a Sony AM/FM/CD head unit with Bluetooth capability. The original Blaupunkt head unit and equalizer are included with the car. The air conditioning system has been converted to R134a refrigerant and was recharged in October 2020.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a 180-mph speedometer, a 7,600-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit mechanical odometer reportedly shows 58k miles.
The turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-liter M44/51 inline-four is fitted with a Vitesse Racing MAF kit as well as an upgraded hybrid turbocharger. A strut tower brace spans the engine bay and the car also features a 3″ turbo-back exhaust. The oil pan gasket and rear main seal are said to have been replaced under current ownership. The fuel injectors, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor were recently replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rear-mounted five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. An external transmission oil cooler is equipped, and the seller reports that the clutch and transaxle synchros were replaced within the last 2k miles, and the the lower control arm bushings, steering rack bushings, and ball joints have also been replaced.
The window sticker lists delivery to Bill Cook Porsche in Farmington Hills, Michigan, along with factory colors, equipment, and an MSRP of $44,081.
