This 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 was purchased new by the seller at Boulevard Datsun of Boulder, Colorado, in September 1981. The car features brushed stainless-steel body panels with gray urethane front and rear fascias, and it is powered by a 2.85-liter V6 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. The DMC-12 features brushed stainless steel body panels over a fiberglass underbody and a Lotus-derived chassis. The front and rear fascias are painted metallic gray, and other features include a louvered rear-window cover, black bumper covers, dual polished exhaust outlets, a power antenna, and vertically-opening gullwing doors.
Turbine-style 14″ and 15″ alloy wheels are mounted with 195/60 front and 235/60 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, and the four-wheel independent suspension utilizes coil springs at each corner.
The cabin features black leather upholstery on the bolstered seats, center console, and door panels along with matching carpets and DMC-embroidered floor mats. Equipment includes a digital cassette stereo, a digital clock, power windows, and a rear parcel shelf with a cargo net. Cruise control, a radar detector, and an alarm system were installed when the car was new, but the radar detector and the alarm system were subsequently removed. The air conditioning system was converted to use R124a refrigerant in November 2013, and the system was recharged in April 2021.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The fuel gauge is inaLurate. The five-digit odometer shows 11k miles, all of which have been added under current ownership. The seller notes that the speedometer and odometer malfunctioned in the early 1980s, and estimates that between 800 and 900 miles were added before repairs were completed. Total mileage is unknown.
The rear-mounted 2.85-liter V6 was developed collaboratively by Peugeot, Renault, and Volvo. Output was originally rated at 130 horsepower and 153 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. The seller states that the Optima battery was installed in March 2019. The radiator, water pump, clutch cylinders, engine belts, and hoses were reportedly replaced in 2011. The oil sensor was replaced on May 11, 2021, and an oil change was performed at that time.
