This 1976 Triumph Spitfire was acquired by the seller in 1980 and is powered by a 1.5-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car is said to have received an engine overhaul, suspension refurbishment, and bodywork in the mid-1990s followed by a repaint in Carmine Red. Features include tan vinyl upholstery, a black soft top, chrome bumpers with rubber overriders, a front spoiler, a wooden dash, under-dash storage compartments, and a chrome luggage rack. Service in preparation for the sale consisted of replacing the distributor and the right rear wheel cylinder, re-torquing the cylinder head, and a valve adjustment.
The body was factory finished in Carmine Red (82) and reportedly had damage to the left front when it was acquired by the seller, after which an exterior refurbishment was completed in the 1990s. Repairs to the bodywork are said to have included the replacement of the rear quarter panels, rocker panels, front splash pans, and the front fenders followed by a repaint in red. Exterior features include a chrome luggage rack, chrome bumpers with rubber overriders, a front spoiler, and a driver-side bullet mirror.
Silver-finished 13″ steel wheels with Triumph-branded center caps and polished trim rings wear 155/80 Kuhmo Solus KR21 tires. The seller states that the front and rear suspension bushings were replaced and that the suspension components were painted during the 1990s refurbishment. Koni shock absorbers have been installed at all four corners, and the right rear wheel cylinder was replaced in August 2021 in preparation for the sale.
The interior features tilting bucket seats and a center arm rest, transmission tunnel trim, door inserts, and rear cockpit panels upholstered in tan vinyl. Amenities include a period radio, a heater, a wood-veneered dashboard, and rubber Triumph-branded floor mats.
A three-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline. Gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level are located in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 53k miles
The 1.5-liter inline four is fitted with a single Zenith-Stromberg carburetor and reportedly was overhauled during the car’s 1990s refurbishment. Service in preparation for the sale included the installation of a points-style distributor, a re-torque of the cylinder head, a valve adjustment, and the installation of a silicone valve cover gasket.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
An owner’s manual is included in the sale along with a tonneau cover, a top boot, and a 2012 Vintage Triumph Register Gold Certificate.
