This 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible is finished in metallic blue with white stripes over blue upholstery and is powered by a replacement 455ci V8 paired with a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes a power-operated white soft top, 14″ rally-style wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, a ram-air hood, power-steering, air conditioning, a push-button radio, and an eight-track player. The seller acquired the car in November 2021, and subsequent work is said to have included reupholstering the soft top, overhauling the carburetor and cruise control transducer, and replacement of the spark plugs, tires, battery, and an exhaust manifold gasket.
The car left the factory finished in Viking Blue (26) and is said to have been repainted during previous ownership. Features include a power-operated white soft top, a ram-air hood with white stripes and chrome twist locks, chrome bumpers with overriders, white side and decklid stripes, bright-finished trim, dual exhaust outlets, and “442” badging on the front grille, fenders, and decklid. Crazing is noted in the finish on the rear of the car, and additional work performed during current ownership is said to have included refinishing the driver-side rocker and reupholstering the soft top.
Body-color 14″ Rally-style wheels with polished trim rings wear 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that are said to have been installed by the seller. A matching spare is mounted inside the trunk, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The interior features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in blue vinyl with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Simulated woodgrain accents the dash, doors, and center console, and amenities include air conditioning, cruise control, power steering, lap belts, 442-branded flood mats, a push-button radio, and an eight-track player. Work performed by the seller is said to have include overhauling the cruise control transducer and power seat transmission, recharging the air conditioning with R12 refrigerant, and refurbishing the eight-track player and analog clock.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 67k miles.
The replacement 455ci V8 was installed under previous ownership and was factory rated at 340 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Service performed under current ownership included overhauling the carburetor and replacement of the spark plugs, driver-side exhaust manifold gasket, battery, and a battery cable.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 automatic transmission.
Documentation accompanying the car includes manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a hand-written fuel log dating back to April 1996. An assortment of eight-track cassettes is also included.
