This 1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupe underwent a restoration completed in 2024. Work included performing rust remediation on the chassis and bodywork before refinishing the exterior in Willow Green, installing a replacement 1.6L flat-four and four-speed manual transaxle, overhauling the suspension, brakes, and electrical system, and retrimming the interior with Light Sand vinyl upholstery and Oatmeal carpets. Equipment includes dual EMPI carburetors, Pertronix electronic ignition, front disc brakes, 15″ alloy wheels, chrome bumpers, a cabin heater, Coco floor mats, and an AM/FM radio.
The toeboard and floorpans were replaced during the restoration and additional bodywork included rust remediation and collision damage repair with a freshly grafted nose panel and rear apron before the sheetmetal was refinished in Willow Green (L63K). Exterior details include chrome bumpers with overriders as well as dual side mirrors, pop-out rear quarter windows, a vented decklid, and bright trim.
The 15″ EMPI eight-spoke wheels with body-color centers and bright lips are mounted with Nexen tires. Stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The front bucket seats and folding rear bench are upholstered in Light Sand vinyl that extends to the door panels. Oatmeal square-weave carpets line the floors and additional appointments include sheepskin-style front seat covers, a cabin heater, a bamboo under-dash shelf, Coco floor mats, and an AM/FM radio.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg crest and frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 90-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and oil temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 33k miles.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four was assembled under current ownership with a replacement case, Mahle pistons and cylinders, dual-port cylinder heads, a Schadek 26mm oil pump, dual EMPI 34 ICT carburetors, hex-bar throttle linkage, a Bosch 009 coil, and Pertronix electronic ignition.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a lightweight flywheel, a replacement clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing, a rebuilt four-speed manual transaxle from a 1972 model, and replacement axles.
