This 1963 Triumph TR4 is finished in red with a black convertible top over a black vinyl interior and powered by a 2.1-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Subsequent service included removing, refinishing, and resealing of the drivetrain, refinishing the chassis and engine bay, overhauls of the carburetors, suspension, and braking systems, replacement of the exhaust system and ignition components, and more as detailed below.
The bodywork was refinished in GM-specification Bright Red during prior ownership, and following the seller’s acquisition in 2018 rocker panels, both door jams, the right A-pillar, and right door were repainted. The seller states that the remainder of the bodywork was wet sanded and paint correction was performed, the chrome bright work was polished, missing rubber seals were replaced, replacement body hardware was installed, Hella driving lights were fitted to the front, the headlights were relayed, and the black convertible top was realigned.
15″ wire wheels with replacement two-ear knock-offs are mounted with Cooper Sportmaster GLT tires, with a matching spare wheel and tire located in the trunk. During current ownership the suspension was overhauled, which included refinishing components and replacement of the ball joints, bushings, and shocks. The braking system was also overhauled, with refinished front brake calipers, braided stainless-steel hoses, and replacement of the brake switch.
The interior features bucket seats that were reupholstered in black vinyl with white piping during previous ownership. During current ownership the seat tracks were greased and realigned, the window regulators and wooden shift knob were refurbished, heat shielding material was added to the transmission tunnel, and the floor mats, seat belts, window seals, and dashboard knobs were replaced. The seller added TR4A-specification sun visors, and notes that the AM radio does not work.
The banjo-style steering wheel was refinished and wrapped with leather during current ownership, and it frames Jaeger gauges including a 6k-rpm tachometer and a 120-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer displays just over 48k miles.
The 2.1-liter inline-four was removed, resealed, and repainted, and the engine bay was also refreshed. The twin carburetors were rebuilt and the voltage regulator and wiring were replaced, along with the ignition components, vacuum lines, and fuel pump and lines. A replacement battery tray was fabricated and installed as well. The generator is reported to be inoperative, though an uninstalled replacement unit is included in the sale.
During current ownership, the underside was coated with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator and then repainted in Eastwood Chassis black, and the exhaust components were replaced.
