This 1953 Mercury Monterey is a two-door hardtop finished in tan and green paint over matching vinyl upholstery. Power is from a 255ci flathead V8 paired with a column-shifted automatic transmission, and the car features fog lights, a defroster, and an AM radio. Refurbishment work was reportedly performed prior to the seller’s acquisition in 2017, and subsequent service is said to have included replacing the generator, the water pump, the carpets, and the front lap belts as well as installing a PerTronix ignition module.
The two-door pillarless coupe is finished in Tahiti Tan with a Village Green roof and underwent a refurbishment in the 1990s. Details include front bumper cones, a chrome hood scoop, and flared bodywork extending over the rear wheels. The side mirrors and headlights were replaced under current ownership, while the front bumpers and cones have been rechromed.
Black 15″ steel wheels wear refinished full covers featuring the winged helmet of Mercury and are mounted with newer whitewall tires. Independent front suspension employs coil springs and conventional dampers that were reportedly replaced under current ownership, while a solid axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs can be found in the rear. A spare wheel is located in the trunk.
The twin bench seats were refoamed and reupholstered in Ivory and Turquoise vinyl to match the exterior. Equipment consists of removable center consoles with cupholders along with cream-colored front lap belts and gray loop-weave carpeting, both of which were reportedly replaced under current ownership.
Teal paint covers the steel dashboard, which houses a clock and a push-button AM radio. A black two-spoke steering wheel fronts an instrument pod housing heater and ventilation controls, a 110-mph speedometer, and gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 81k miles.
The 255ci flathead V8 breathes through a two-barrel carburetor and was rated at 125 horsepower with 211 lb-ft of torque when new. Service performed under current ownership reportedly included replacing the generator, water pump, upper and lower radiator hoses, and heater control valve along with installing an eight-volt battery and a PerTronix ignition module.
A column-shifted automatic transmission routes power to the rear wheels.
