This 1937 Buick Series 80 Roadmaster is a Model 81 trunk-back sedan that underwent a cosmetic refurbishment under previous ownership that included a repaint in metallic gray as well as the installation of replacement tan cloth upholstery. Power comes from a 320ci straight-eight paired with a three-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes dual side-mount spare wheels, yellow-lens driving lamps, rear-hinged rear doors, an AM radio, a heater, a rear footrest, and a robe cord. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
The Buick lineup was restyled for 1937 and featured squared-off fender ends, a split grille with horizontal chrome bars, and streamlined headlight buckets and fender-mounted driving lamps. A total of 14,637 Model 81 trunk-back sedans were produced for the model year. This example was delivered from the factory in Imperial Black (500) and was repainted in metallic gray under previous ownership. Equipment includes yellow-lens driving lamps, Roadmaster-branded hood vents, an antenna, dual side-view mirrors, running boards, dual taillights, and a glass-lens Buco-Buick brake lamp mounted on the trunk lid.
The red-painted wheels feature chrome hubcaps and trim rings, and they are mounted with 7.00-16 Lester whitewall bias-ply tires. Spare wheels in body-color covers are stowed in the front fenders. The Model 81 rode on a 131″ wheelbase and featured a coil-sprung independent front suspension along with a live rear axle with leaf springs. Stopping power is provided by hydraulic drums at all four corners.
The cabin was reupholstered in tan cloth under previous ownership, and it features front and rear benches along with a color-coordinated headliner, door panels, and carpets. Additional equipment includes an AM radio, a heater, a locking glovebox door with an inset clock, woodgrain dash and window trim, a rear cabin footrest, a robe cord, and a rear fold-down armrest.
The three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel features a chrome horn ring, and it frames a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles.
The 320ci straight-eight features five main bearings and a Carter carburetor for a factory rating of 130 horsepower. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted three-speed manual transmission.
