Oldsmobile produced 3,468 Cutlass convertibles with the 442 performance package for 1965. Finished from the factory in Target Red with a black convertible top (R-1), this car has been repainted in red and fitted with a power-operated white convertible top. Equipment includes a red top boot, quad headlights, chrome bumpers, bright trim, 442 badging, a driver-side mirror, and reverse lights. The windshield and windshield molding reportedly were replaced in 2022.
Super Sport 15″ wheels are mounted with 205/70 BFGoodrich Silvertown Radial double-red-line tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted drums at all four corners. In April 2021, the tires are said to have been replaced along with the brake master cylinder, rear shoes, hardware, and wheel cylinders.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in red vinyl and are accented by coordinating door panels and replacement red carpeting. Appointments include lap belts, patterned-metal dash trim, a heater, and a locking glovebox.
The two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a sweeping 120-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. A Sunpro tachometer is attached to the steering column near Sunpro gauges for coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure.
The 400ci V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 345 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. The voltage regulator was replaced in 2021, and work in 2022 included replacing the points and the fuel sending unit, adjusting the timing and the carburetor, and flushing the radiator.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The dual exhaust system’s tailpipes and hangars were replaced in 2022.
