This 1965 Triumph TR4 was built on January 1, 1965, and was acquired by the current owner in 2018. The car is finished in red with a black soft top over black upholstery, and power comes from a 2.1-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes LED headlights, PerTronix electronic ignition, a center console, an Alpine CD player, a Viper alarm system, and a burl wood dash panel. An April 2021 service included the installation of replacement spark plugs and an oil change as well as adjustments of the carburetor and ignition and fuel systems.
Delivered from the factory in Signal Red, the car was repainted in its current red in 1992. Features include chrome bumpers with overriders, dual mirrors, a black soft top, a matching tonneau cover, and LED headlights, taillights, and turn signals. New window, door, and trunk seals were installed in 2019.
The 15″ body-color steel wheels feature chrome Triumph hubcaps and trim rings, and they were mounted with replacement Universal Sport redline radial tires in July 2019. Replacement four-piston front brake calipers were installed in August 2018 along with slotted rotors. Rear bushing wear is noted.
The cabin features sound insulation that was installed before replacement carpets were added in February 2019. The low-back bucket seats are trimmed in black with red piping, and equipment includes Triumph-branded lap belts, a center console, an Alpine CD player, a Viper alarm system, a burl wood dash panel, and Triumph-branded floor mats. The seatback foam is said to be thin.
The 2.1-liter inline-four features dual SU carburetors and a chrome valve cover. A PerTronix ignition system was installed along with a high-torque starter and an alternator in 2018. An oil change was performed in April 2021 along with adjustments of the carburetor and ignition system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The fuel pressure was adjusted in April 2021. Corrosion is noted on unpainted metal underside surfaces.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust lists a build date of January 1, 1965, and that the car was despatched for the US on April 1st. Additional shipping information is noted along with the car’s original colors and options.
